The Harwood Report is intended for informational and educational purposes only. In the report, I go over a sampling of the intriguing trading setups that may be present in the market on a given day. The concepts presented illustrate a portion of the analysis that I do when looking for trading opportunities in the options markets. Portfolio and trade construction are imperative in maximizing returns and minimizing risk, and that is where I have focused my efforts. I hope you find the content inspirational, informative, and educational.

Yesterday’s bullish report by TGT triggered a large amount of short covering in the retail sector. Many of the recent laggards in retail, energy, and other sectors were bought aggressively yesterday. This leads to a lack of stocks trading very close to 52-week lows and an inflection point for today – do these names that experienced aggressive short-covering fade immediately or continue? Often, the market starts to liquidate large winners shortly after a short-covering, so I would expect some of our best performers to lead a break. With this in mind, today’s report will focus on finding names that may move as traders liquidate longs and shorts today. Today we focus on AAP and MU.

Janet Yellen’s commentary gave the stock market a boost yesterday, and we are seeing a bit of consolidation this morning. Often times, when the overall macro indexes are stable, we see trends in individual names continue. With this in mind, we highlight CLVS and GPS in today’s report.

The market is up small pre-market with all eyes on the Fed’s Janet Yellen this afternoon. Many stocks have continued to move in the direction of their trend through the beginning of this month and I expect to see this continue barring a big shift from Yellen’s commentary. With this in mind, we highlight RTN and TJX in today’s report.

The market is again fairly stable pre-market with a hint of weakness. We will continue our focus to looking for continuation of trends and breakouts on both the upside and downside. With this in mind, we highlight EXEL and GPS in today’s report.

The market is very stable to start the week with light outperformance by the Technology sector and underperformance in Small Cap names. Given this, we will return our focus to looking for continuation of trends and breakouts on both the upside and downside. With this in mind, we highlight DE and GIS in today’s report.

While there are some interesting setups in equities, the most interesting move overnight came in Silver. We highlighted Silver yesterday as a potential call-buying opportunity, and given last night’s flash crash and recovery, we feel it best to provide some updated commentary on our approach to the position coming into the day. Today, our focus will be on SLV.

Overnight markets are a bit shaky as tensions mount over North Korea’s missile testing. This will make it somewhat difficult to find equity names that are pricing near yesterday’s close and I tend to believe that the markets will need to open before we get clarity on the individual equity reactions. Additionally, looking for breakouts on a shaky market day tends to be somewhat of a difficult play. So today, I will be looking at something a bit different: a commodity play. Today, I will go over thoughts on Silver and how I will be looking at SLV options.

It’s a new month and a new half of the year, and it started a bit rocky for the Technology Sector on Monday’s abbreviated session. After a bit of follow through overnight, the Technology Sector appears to be getting a bit of a bounce this morning. If this unwinding of winners is complete or near completion, we should see a resumption of extending winners – pushing stocks near 52-week highs to new highs and stocks near 52-week lows to new lows. The names I am looking at for this setup today are TSO and HPE.
